LAVARACK Barracks will soon house a new, top-of-the-range fleet of heavy machinery.
Herbert MP Peter Lindsay said Townsville's 3rd Combat Engineer Regiment would be equipped with the latest bulldozers and graders to carry out vital construction work and disaster relief.
"The regiment will receive nine bulldozers and six graders worth $5.6 million, to replace its current fleet," he said.
"The fleet was vital in the work done by our (Australian Defence Force) personnel during Operation Larry Assist in Innisfail, following Cyclone Larry.
"The army's bulldozers and graders have been in high demand in recent times in support of operations in East Timor and the Solomon Islands, and providing disaster relief in Banda Aceh following the tsunami.
"It has also been used in providing valuable assistance through development projects in remote Aboriginal communities across Australia."
The new fleet will be delivered in October and February.
